Tamara Daye is the #1 women in my heart love u mom!!!!austin said

Austin Daye came into the world as a high-five. He was born at 5:55 a.m. on June 5 and weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces. The Memphis Grizzlies forward wears jersey number 5.
“It’s my mom’s lucky number,” said Daye, who was at Gonzaga University where he was a first-round NBA draft pick in 2009.

My mother, Tamara Daye, has multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic, progressive nerve disorder that affects movement.
“I think that everything happens for a reason, and it is all through God’s plans,” Austin Daye said.
When my mother was first diagnosed with MS when i was nearing my senior year at Wood bridge High School in Irvine, Calif., “a lot of things turned,” he said.
“I knew I had to help her as much as I could,” he said. “When you go from being a kid in high school to being a man in high school, it changes a lot of things.”.

i don’t know the stage of his mother’s disease.
“She keeps it from me, which is kind of disturbing,” he said. “I respect her decision what to tell me and what not to tell me.”

While Tamara Daye has gotten better, there are limitations to what she can and can’t do, including being outside in the heat. During the season, when Austin Daye is more than 1,800 miles away from her Oceanside, Calif., home, he checks his cellphone first thing after practice to see if she has phoned.

“I’m always there for her,” he said

In the middle of 2013 he said
Before entering games, Austin Daye, who is in “constant prayer” for his mother, kisses his WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) rubber band bracelet. He has not taken it off in the year and a half he’s had it.

Strengths: Tremendous length, athleticism and skill for a player his size. Has immense potential Thrives at facing the basket and shooting or getting by his man off the dribble His ability to handle and shoot gives him a great deal of promise as a scoring wing forward Already showing signs of developing a deadly offensive skill set, with ball fakes and hesitation moves, and particularly the ability to shoot off the dribble He can pull up as well as spot up and shoot with range Good athlete with explosiveness and speed in the open floor His foot speed and agility are extremely impressive and make him a potential top 10 pick in a few short years Has a chance to be special

Daye was drafted by the Detroit Pistons with the 15th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft

Tayshaun Prince

Lanky frame with an impressive wingspan. Considered too skinny to make a major impact in the NBA.
Seven years ago, that was the knock on Tayshaun Prince, who has become one of the top players from the 2002 draft class.

The Pistons hope for a similar result with Austin Daye, a 6-foot-11, 192-pound forward from Gonzaga who Detroit selected with the No. 15 pick in Thursday night's NBA draft.

In addition to Daye, the Pistons also were considering Earl Clark (selected by Phoenix with the No. 14 pick) and Wake Forest's James Johnson, who was taken by Chicago with the No. 16 pick.
"Daye makes Prince look like the Hulk," ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy said.
Even in his opening remarks following the pick, Joe Dumars made reference to Daye's lithe frame.
"He is skinnier than Tayshaun," said Dumars, Detroit's president of basketball operations. "But we like his skill set."

According to ESPN’s Andy Katz, sophomore Austin Daye has decided forgo his final two years at Gonzaga and enter the NBA draft.

As H&F’s resident Gonzaga fan, I must say that this seems like ahorrible, ill-conceived idea on Daye’s part. Mock draft projections have the 21 year old Daye going to the Pistons with the 15th pick. And while that would be ahead of well-known players like Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbrough, B.J. Mullens, and Terrence Williams, Daye would be lucky to go this high.

In his two years of Spokane, Daye never added the inside game that he will need to be a true offensive threat in the NBA. Primarily a perimeter player, a majority of Daye’s points came from outside jumpers. If he does indeed have the range to shoot the corner three the NBA loves so much, then yes, he could play in the League for 10-12 years. However, I’m not convinced he has this range yet.
He also could have used another 12 months to get some more meat on his frame. As other H&F’ers pointed out previously, he faded against superior competition and also did not do much down the stretch.

  • Austin Daye doesn'’t consider himself an expert on the complicated NBA lockout, which was implemented Friday, but the Pistons forward sees both sides of the wide gap between players and owners.

  • Due to the lockout, NBA players aren't allowed to practice or train in official team facilities. But former Kentucky Wildcats are in luck, because head coach John Calipari has invited former players, including the Pistons' Tayshaun Prince and Brandon Knight, to use Kentucky's facilities to train

Austin Daye, poised for a breakout year, isn't waiting for the NBA lockout to be resolved. The third-year forward signed a deal with a Russian team; Daye, 23, departs this weekend. Daye's deal is for two months, ending in December, Daye can opt-out in case the NBA's collective bargaining situation is resolved quickly

Austin Daye signed a two-month contract with BC Khimki

Victor Bychkov, BC Khimki General Manager word :

    — BC Khimki is now actively preparing for the start of the season, which kicks off for us on September 30. We have to be a powerful, unified team up to this date, because we are waiting for very serious matches in the qualifying round of the Euroleague. Taking into consideration the fact that recently our team was joined by four EuroBasket players in Russian national team, this task seems to be difficult. Moreover we faced with additional challenges: I mean the players' injuries. Our rookie Matt Nielsen, who played so well in the Australian team in recent qualify games with New Zealand for Olympics-2012, suffered a damage of muscles of the back of the thigh. He needs time to recover. The club has taken emergency measures to "close" the position of power forward. We hope this problem has been solved by signing a deal with Austin Daye

Austin Daye: Why Another 4 Years of Pistons Forward Isn't Worth $4 Million

    Always a risk
Daye was always somewhat of a risk when Detroit drafted him. Guys who are as tall as most centers but weigh less than some point guards are inherently risky.
Will he be able to bulk up? Will he be able to find a stable position? Will his slight frame hinder him in a very physical league?
Sadly for Detroit, after three seasons none of those questions can be answered affirmatively.
Daye is talented, that much is evident. He has incredible range, and when he wants to he can be a dynamic scorer.
But instead of improve over the last three seasons, he has regressed.
Last year, Daye had his worst season in a Pistons uniform.

    Risks in letting him walk
There are certainly risks in letting Daye walk, but there are also huge risks in sticking it out with him. What if by continuing to roll with Daye, the Pistons stunt the growth of one of their other young small forwards?
The bottom line is that Daye had his shot, and has not shown a willingness or the ability to do a good job for Detroit. He had his chance, now it is time to cut bait and move to another spot.

    Effort is lacking
One of the most frustrating things for me is when I see talented players giving a lack of effort. It is like watching a lottery winner setting money on fire.
Daye has had the same terrible body language and lackadaisical demeanor ever since Detroit drafted him. Some argued that that didn't necessarily mean that he wouldn't grow out of it. And sure, there have been extenuating circumstances, not the least of all being a revolving door at the head coach position.
But we all deal with these issues in life, but it is our job to move through these obstacles and make the most out of life, especially for something we really want.
Daye strikes me as the kind of guy who really doesn't like basketball, but was forced into it because he is tall.

    Other options
If Detroit decides to either trade Daye or simply choose to not offer him his qualifying offer of $4 million for next year, that would open the door for a few things.

One, it frees up minutes for the Pistons' other young guys. KhrisMiddleton, Kyle Singler and even Jonas Jerebko would gain more valuable playing time.

Austin Daye 20 Points Full Highlights

    on Dec 19 2012
The Detroit Pistons are reportedly more than willing to listen to any trade offer involving reserve forward Austin Daye.
No longer viewed as a possible cornerstone player, Detroit Pistons small forward Austin Daye is currently being actively shopped around the leagueaccording to a report by Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.
Still just 24 years old despite being in his fourth NBA season, the 6'11, 200-pound Daye hasLawrence Frank's Pistons. Although he appeared to be developing quite nicely following a 2010-11 campaign where he averaged 7.5 points and shot 40.1% from three-point range as a part-time player, Daye's lack of strength and poor rebounding ability each continue to limit his growth as an interior player.
played in just six games this year for
While his outside shooting and ridiculous wingspan made him a coveted commodity coming out of Gonzaga four years ago, Daye's inability to guard certain positions at the defensive end has often made him a difficult option to rely on during his career. His massive 6'11 frame also appears to contradict his perimeter-oriented style of play and, while some players are able to overcome this, Daye has yet to prove to opponents that he is a threat to score inside in addition to out.
The No. 15 overall selection back in 2009, Daye's market value right now does not even appear to be in the same stratosphere that it once was just two to three seasons ago. The Pistons may not be willing to give Daye any more time to develop, but it's still hard to imagine Joe Dumars being able to pick up anything tangible in return considering Daye's nonexistent trade value

Grading the 2012-2013 Memphis Grizzlies: Austin Daye

    on Jun 4 2013

What can you say about a guy like Austin Daye? Seriously, I'm not being cute, I am honestly not sure what I can say about him here that won't get me suspended from the site. When we acquired Daye, I described him as "stretch four fodder," and that was really being generous. Daye didn't really do much to help Memphis, despite posting double-digit scoring games twice. His offensive game is limited to spot up shooting, and his defensive game is nonexistent, to put it mildly. I can't think of anything more painful than watching Austin Daye play defense,

Throughout his 31 games in Memphis, we saw Austin Daye attempt to
guard and get torched by the LeBron JamesKevin Durant, and of course, Grant Hill. He piled up eight DNP-Coach's Decision, and posted a +/- of -7 or worse nine different times.
If I were trapped in a room with Austin Daye, Kevin Hart, and Kim Jong Un, and was promised a romantic date with the little redheaded girl if I could control my temper, I'd slap Austin Daye twice. If I were about to lose my vision, and the doctors told me that I had about five minutes of sight left, and Austin Daye was on the court playing defense, I would grab the nearest spoon and gouge my eyes out early. If I were promised Nasim Pedrad's hand in marriage if only I would allow Austin Daye to start for my basketball team, I'd hire him a personal limo driver to make sure he was on time and suited up for every game, because let's face it, I'm not an idiot.
With a $4.1 million team option for next season, it is all but a certainty that Daye will no longer be a Grizzly when next season arrives. A (n extremely) small portion of the fan base has expressed interest in bringing Daye back. I have $350 in change in a bank in my bedroom floor, and I'd rather that be distributed out amongst several tube socks and used to beat me to a pulp before that happens.

Look, I'm sure Austin Daye is a great guy. He's probably a tremendous son, a real good secret keeper, and a lot of fun to have at barbecues, but the fact of the matter is, he's just not at a place in his career where he can consistently contribute to an NBA team, despite his pure stroke from the outside.

    Raptors season 2013-2014

    On Jul 30, 2013

reported  that the Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement with free agent Austin Daye, formally of the Memphis Grizzlies,

On the bright side, last season Austin Daye stopped his trend of getting worse and worse each season he was in the league. He wasn’t great — a PER of 12.9, below the league average — but he was knocking down threes at a 41.8 percent clip.
Which is why he gets a chance to see if he can take another step forward with the Raptors — he has reached a two-year, $2 million deal with the team,

The San Antonio Spurs have traded guard Nando de Colo to the Toronto Raptors for forward Austin Daye.

He’s on the hook for less than $1 million this season and has a non-guaranteed contract for next year. This move was made simply to tidy of the rotation situation and give the Spurs depth where they need it most. Daye, out of Gonzaga, is only 25 years old, so there’s room to grow both physically and as a player.

On March 15, 2014, he was assigned to the Austin Toros of the NBA D-League He was recalled the next day

Spurs keep Austin Daye, make you re-think Austin Daye!!

Who am I to question the Spurs’ brain trust of Executive of the Year R.C. Buford and Coach of the Year Gregg Popovich, but I really didn’t understand the Nando de Colo-Austin Daye trade. San Antonio and Toronto swapped the marginal players in February, and I guess I could see Daye making Spurs a little more balanced on the backend of their roster. I guess.
But de Colo had an expiring contract, and $250,000 of Daye’s $1,063,384 2014-15 salary was guaranteed. In the grand scheme, $250,000 was unlikely to matter, but why risk that for practically no on-court gain?
Daye is a poor defender and streaky shooter whose good runs aren’t even that good.
If I didn’t think a $250,000 cap hit was worth it, I really don’t see the point of taking the full $1,063,384 hit to keep Daye. But the Spurs will do just that.

Because these are the Spurs, who do everything right, I’m already going to declare myself wrong. They deserve all the benefit of the doubt, and I deserve none.
If I squint really hard, I can see the potential.
Daye made 41 percent of his corner 3s his first two seasons with the Pistons. Bouncing between Detroit, Memphis, Toronto and San Antonio the previous two years, he shot 25 percent from the corner. Maybe the Spurs believe they can repair his shot and train him to use his lengthy wingspan to become a 3-and-D player.
Right now, Daye is neither a 3-nor-D player, but if anyone can salvage his NBA career, it’s the Spurs.
