Attending high school in north Queensland, Baynes’ interest in basketball was helped by having a professional team nearby.

As a 17-year-old he was training with the NBL’s Cairns Taipans and would later join the Taipans academy and the Australian Institute of Sport, as well as playing in the semi-professional league for the Cairns Marlins with whom he won a national championship in 2004.

    In the summer of 2010 Baynes was named to the Australian senior national team and competed at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey





    Baynes didn’t disappoint for the national team, either. With the Boomers he won a gold medal at the 2011 FIBA Oceania Championship

    Aron Baynes hopes to re-sign with the San Antonio Spurs, but he is also exporing potential deals with European teams.



    Baynes is reportedly searching for a contract worth $1.5 million Euros.
